Silver and Woodstock began
playing music together in the early seventies with a five piece group
called “Threshold.” Silver/AKA, Rick Mathis, sang lead and
played guitar. Woodstock/AKA, Keith Weaver played bass and sang
back-up vocals (picture below).
As time went on “Threshold”
broke up, as many bands do, and Rick and Keith went their musical
separate ways. Both had played in many different bands over the years
and then the day came when Keith called Rick to fill in on guitar for
a country group. Since Rick was doing mainly a single act at the time
in local bars, he thought it would be fun to play with a band again.
Shortly after that, they
decided to form a duo called “Rockback” and played mainly classic rock
around the Tri-State area. It was at this time that the
two were named "Silver & Woodstock" by an admiring fan in a bar in Mt.
Lookout (Cincinnati), Ohio. As time went on, they added a lead guitar player and
drummer and kept the name, Rockback. After a couple of years, Keith and
Rick decided that it would be fun to “go back” to a duo again. The
equipment was getting heavy, (laugh if you want).
At that point
they decided to change the name to “Silver & Woodstock,” which,
as we said earlier, they were named 9 years prior. The “band”
remains the same to this day. They have played at enumerable
venues throughout the tri-state, and continue to do the same.
“Silver & Woodstock” specialize in “Classic Rock.” Elvis to Hootie
and The Blowfish, The Lovin’ Spoonful to The Strawberry Alarm Clock,
The Turtles to The American Breed. Watch for them in your
neighborhood, they are coming on strong.
